Onboarding Flow
When you sign up for Lanyard, you'll be guided through a quick onboarding process to get your first party and trip set up.
What to Expect
Step 1: Create Your Party
A Party is the core planning unit in Lanyard where you and your travel companions work together.
You'll be asked to give your party a name. For family trips, try using your surname. For example, "Smith Family" or "Jones Family Trip". For groups of friends, try a nickname like "The Fab Five".
Tips for naming:
- Keep it simple and recognizable
- You can create multiple parties for different groups of people
Step 2: Create Your First Trip
After creating your party, you'll be guided to create your first trip. A Trip represents a specific travel period with start and end dates.
You'll need to provide:
- Trip name (e.g., "Summer Disney Trip")
- Start date
- End date
Once created, you'll be taken to the trip board where you can start planning!
Skipping Onboarding
If you're already familiar with Lanyard or prefer to set things up yourself, you can click Skip for now at any point during onboarding.
Note: Skipping onboarding is permanent — you won't be prompted again, but you can always create parties and trips from the dashboard.
For Users Joining Existing Parties
If you're invited to join an existing party via an invitation link, you'll skip the onboarding flow entirely and go directly to the party you joined.
