Your Party

A Party is the core planning unit in Lanyard. This is where you and your travel companions plan trips together.

Party Basics

Each party has: - A name (e.g., "Smith Family Disney Trip 2026") - A list of members - A shared Wishlist that persists across all trips - One or more trips

You can belong to multiple parties — perfect for planning different trips with different groups of people.

Creating a Party

  1. From your dashboard, click New party
  2. Enter a name for your party
  3. Click Create

You'll automatically be added as a member of the new party.

Inviting Members

Share the planning experience with your travel companions using an invite link:

  1. Go to your party's page
  2. Click Invite to Party
  3. A unique invite link is generated and copied to your clipboard
  4. Share this link with anyone you want to join
  5. The link expires after 7 days

Managing Invites

  • The party page shows any pending invitations and their expiry dates
  • Click Revoke next to an invite to cancel it before it expires
  • Once someone accepts an invite, they appear in the member list

Member Roles

Each party member is either a member or an admin. The person who creates the party is automatically an admin.

Admin Permissions

Admins can do everything members can, plus: - Promote members to admin - Demote other admins back to member - Remove members from the party

Member Permissions

All members can: - Create and edit trips - Add and remove wishlist items - Schedule and reschedule cards - Create public share links - Invite new members

Promoting and Demoting

If you're an admin, you can promote another member to admin: 1. On the party page, find the member you want to promote 2. Click the arrow up button next to their name 3. They'll get an admin badge (crown icon) and can now manage members too

To demote another admin back to member, click the arrow down button on their admin badge.

Removing a Member

Admins can remove a member from the party: 1. Find the member on the party page 2. Click the X button next to their name 3. Confirm the removal

This removes the member from the party. Any trips and wishlist items they created remain with the party.

Leaving a Party

If you no longer want to be part of a party: 1. Go to the party page 2. Scroll to the member list section 3. Click Leave party (at the bottom of the member actions) 4. Confirm that you want to leave

When you leave: - If you're the only admin, another member is automatically promoted to admin - If you're the last member, the party is deleted - You can rejoin later if someone sends you a new invitation

Party Statistics

The party page shows helpful statistics about your wishlist: - Total number of items - Breakdown by type (Parks, Rides, Travel, Events, Meals, Goals) - Quick access to recent items
