Getting Started with Lanyard

Welcome to Lanyard! This guide will walk you through setting up your account and creating your first trip.

Creating Your Account

Lanyard uses social sign-in — there are no passwords to remember. Simply click one of the sign-in options on the login page and authorise Lanyard to access your basic profile information.

Google is the primary sign-in method, and some Lanyard instances may also offer Apple or other OpenID Connect providers. All sign-in options work the same way: you'll be redirected to your chosen provider, asked to approve access, and then brought back to Lanyard ready to start planning.

Creating Your First Party

A Party is the main group in Lanyard. Your party can include family members, friends, or anyone else you're travelling with.

  1. After signing in, you'll be taken to your dashboard
  2. Click Create your party
  3. Give your party a name (e.g., "Summer Disney Trip 2026")
  4. Click Create

Once created, you'll be able to invite others to join your party.

Inviting Members

Share the planning experience with your travel companions:

  1. Go to your party's page
  2. Click Invite to Party
  3. You get a shareable invite link — copy it and send to anyone you want to join
  4. The link expires after 7 days for security

Members will be able to view and edit all trips and wishlist items in your party.

Building Your Wishlist

The Wishlist is a collection of activities, dining, and experiences you'd like to consider for your trip. Items in the wishlist persist across all trips in your party.

  1. Navigate to your party's page
  2. Click Add item in the Wishlist section
  3. Choose the type (Park, Ride, Travel, Event, Meal, or Goal)
  4. Enter a title and optional description
  5. Set a priority (Must do, High, Medium, Low, or Someday) to help you plan

Creating Your First Trip

A Trip represents a specific travel period with start and end dates.

  1. From your party page, click Add trip
  2. Enter a name for your trip
  3. Set the start and end dates
  4. Click Create

Planning with the Board

The Board is where you'll drag and drop wishlist items onto specific days of your trip.

  1. Open your trip
  2. Switch to the Board view
  3. Drag items from the "Wishlist" column on the right to the day you want to do them
  4. Items placed on the board become Cards with scheduled dates
  5. You can also drag cards between days to reschedule
